I remember just after having surviving my heart attack the present of presence. One minute grateful, the next minute tearful, another moment wanting people just to be honest and stop doting upon how I felt or what was next … That said, keep the faith, keep writing, and thanks for sharing.
You are very kind to give people "with my fingers" as response. I would vary it depending on the person. You have options if you want to get spicy:

I have one sweet friend who asks this - 'Where is your heart?' Now, obviously, this is a deeper relationship than with most people around me. I can answer her question. But the other questions - I could say...it hurts from the tip of my hair to the tip of my toenails. I am dealing with Common Side Effects from my Immunotherapy drugs. I have a biopsy coming up, and I will be able to take one drug off my list if the news of my stem cell transplant is positive. One year post-transplant! Thank you for sharing - you are giving me voice.
I’ve got a post coming up on the question, “What feels alive in me?” A co-worker asked me that recently, and it really stuck with me. I just finished writing the piece this morning and I’ll be sharing it soon. Stay strong, stay positive! We’ve got this!
Great comments, Chris. I'm going through my own struggles as well. I have kidney failure and have been on dialysis for 3 years. Most days are good but sometimes after treatment, I feel weak. I do my treatments 3 times a week for 4 hours a day. I retired on disability so just enjoying the new lifestyle.
