I had a similar experience today, stuck in traffic for over an hour on a mountain road. A construction worker looked at me, smiled and waved. It made me happy although our 4 hour drive turned into over 5 hours. Smiles matter!
I, too "have watched strangers exchange smiles in elevators at treatment centers...." Vicki and I have observed and been part of those strangers exchanging smiles -- every three or four months when we travel to the INOVA Schar Cancer Center for another step in her aggressive surveillance. These interactions, while brief, are inspiring in so many ways but, I think, most importantly is knowing that absolute strangers UNDERSTAND and wish you SUCCESS -- that is a truly uplifting connection! We have your back!!!
